[XMAS 09] Noelraiser

(A step by step guide of how the quest will play out.)

One screen left of Reet mall entrance, player will notice an NPC imp named "Clive".
Clive has nothing to say unless clicked on.
Clicking on Clive will start the quest, Clive has the following to say:

"Well hi there I'm . . HEY PUT THAT WEAPON AWAY, I'M A NICE IMP!
What . . you never heard of a nice imp? Well, I'm one, I have no interest
in fighting. You don't live very long living dangerously. Well . . run along
now, have a nice day stranger."

Quest Update: "What an interesting creature. I bet if I bother him some
more he'll tell me something useful."

Player clicks on Clive again. Clive says:

"Oh, it's you again. Shouldn't you be . . decorating a tree or going door
to door singing silly songs? What? You want to keep me company?
Fine . . The name's Clive by the way. I've never cared much for the
"holiday season", all I've ever gotten was a punch in the nose."

Quest Update: "Poor little guy, maybe I should get him a present.
Anything would do really . . I'll run into the mall and grab him a squid
platter."

Player obtains squid platter and returns to Clive. Player gives Clive the
squid platter. Clive now says:

"Hey where'd you run off to in such a hurry?! Oh . . is that . . for me?
You're real nice friend, thanks! I don't have anything to give you though . .
Perhaps you would be interested in learning a little secret that us imps
know about Santa . . ?"

Quest Update: "Dirt on Santa? What could the nicest guy in the world
have to hide? This could be interesting . . I want to hear this secret."

Player clicks on Clive again. Clive says:

"Santa didn't always use elves to make the toys. A long, long time ago,
he used imps. I know this because my grandfather worked for him, he
said so himself. My grandfather told me that Santa, believe it or not,
used to have a brother. His brother would test out every new toy that
was made by the imps. Imp made toys were far superior to elf made
toys, or so my grandfather says."

Quest Update: "Interesting . . I want to hear more."

Player clicks on Clive again. Clive says:

"In the beginning, Santa's brother loved every toy that he tested, every
toy was fun and special in its own way. But . . as the years went by,
he got harder and harder to please, and finally started rejecting every
toy that was handed to him. In a desperate attempt to make something
Santa's brother could be proud of, the imps put their minds together,
and created a beautiful golden puzzle box."

Quest Update: "I bet that finally made him happy! Let's see what happened
next."

Player clicks on Clive again. Clive says:

"When Santa's brother was handed the box, his face lit up with excitement,
and he ran into his office to give it a try. They had finally did it. After all that
time, the hard working imps made a toy Santa's brother once again approved
of. But after a few minutes . . all the candles in the workshop went out, and
everything started shaking. They heard screaming coming from his office, along
with rattling chains and odd ripping sounds. When it was all over
they opened the door to the office and looked inside."

Quest Update: "How horrible! I thought anything to do with the holidays was
supposed to be happy and cheerful. Will this story at least have a happy
ending?"

Player clicks on Clive again. Clive says:

"To make a long story short, there was blood everywhere, and the only thing
left of Santa's brother was one of his big toes. Needless to say, Santa wasn't happy.
He fired all the imps, a small funeral was held at the Secret City graveyard
for what was left of Santa's brother, and Santa hired elves to
replaces the imps, assuming that elves being fairly stupid creatures would
not be able to make toys that could harm anyone."

Quest Update: "Holy cow . . This can't be true, I bet this imp is messing
with me. I'll ask him if that's the case."

Player clicks on Clive. Clive says:

"What, you don't believe me? I know it all sounds pretty crazy, but I can
prove it's true. Go to the graveyard in Secret City, there's a small headstone
near the back with the name "Frank Claus". If you still don't believe me after
seeing that, well . . I honestly don't care. See ya' buddy!"

Quest Update: "What do I have to lose? If anything it'll give me something
to do for a few hours before I go back to roughing up dwarves. Let's see
if that imp's story has a leg to stand on."

Player travels to Secret City, goes a couple screens left to the graveyard
and wanders around till he/she finds the right grave. Walking in front of
the right grave will trigger an event spot, changing the map to a "closer
view" of the area, a quest update will inform the player what happened.
On this screen the player will find a new NPC named Frank Claus who
will not speak unless you click on him. Frank Claus is a zombie. Once
the player has talked to Frank (completing the conversation with Frank
teleports the player back to where they were in front of the grave)
they will complete the quest objectives, and when all objectives have been
completed they can return to that spot in front of the grave to return to the screen
with Frank and inform him of their success.

Quest Update: "I think this is the grave-OW'! What the . . ?! I think I
stepped on some broken glass . . Some people must've had a party
over here and didn't clean up their mess, now my foot's bleeding . .
Well I guess now I'll just leave and-OH MY GOD WHAT'S THAT THING
COMING OUT OF THE GROUND?!?!?!" It . . can talk?"

Player clicks on Frank Claus. Frank Claus says:

"Wrrraaaah'! So long . . for so long I've been in a world where I knew
nothing but pain!! But . . you . . your blood has brought me back to
life, back to this world. I thank you . . But . . as you can see . . I'm
not the man I used to be . ."

Quest Update: "This is all sorts of messed up! I have to remember
though, this is Santa's brother, he's a good man. Maybe I should
stay and listen to more of what he's saying. Maybe I can help him."

Player clicks on Frank Claus again. Frank Claus says:

'I want to return to my brother, return to the workshop and once again
help bring happiness to this world! But I can't . . not like this. Please,
help me rebuild my body. I need more blood . . With it I can once again
become who I once was. I'm afraid though it will have to be . . human
blood. Good luck . ."

Player is now back in front of the grave, they will be able to speak with
Frank again once they've gotten the blood.

Quest Update: "I'm not sure about this . . but would Santa's brother lead
me in the wrong direction? Of course not. Besides, I've killed people for
their heads before, might as well put their blood to good use too."

Quest Objective: "Kill 20 warrior faction members."

Once completed player obtains "Warrior's Blood", which isn't a real item,
and a quest update.

Quest Update: "God what a mess I've made . . but this should be enough
blood to bring back Frank to full strength. I should hurry back, he's not
getting any younger . . or better smelling for that matter."

Players returns to the spot in front of the grave, screen changes, player
clicks on Frank. Frank says:

"Yes . . YES! Give all of it to me! Delicious life giving blood . . My body is
returning to me, the way it used to be! Oh how grateful I am to you . ."

Frank goes from being a zombie to a dwarf.

Quest Update: "I did it! Another job well done. I bet I'll get a reward for this,
I should speak to Frank and see if he wants to reward me somehow."

Player clicks on Frank. Frank says:

"Thank you again for what you have done . . What? A reward? No . . I'm
sorry, I have no gold to give you. In fact . . you've seen too much. I can't
have you running around telling everyone I'm back from the dead, it'll
only make killing my brother and taking his place more difficult. But if
you wanted a horrible painful death as your reward, well HERE YOU GO!!"

The screen is now pvp, and Frank is now attacking the player. He should
have quite a bit of health to make things interesting, maybe even have
some skeletons to back him up a little. Beating Frank and being killed by
Frank has two different outcomes.

If player dies they are sent to their spawn and get the following message:

Quest Failed: You wake up in the middle of the street with people pointing
and laughing at you. It was . . all a dream? Never again will you drink that
much ale, never again . ."

If the player lives they get this message and are returned to the spot in front
of the grave:

Quest Completed: "I'm glad that's over . . Wherever Frank was, it must've
drove him insane. Maybe now his soul is at peace . . Still, I deserve some
kind of reward for such a noble deed. I don't think anyone would mind if I
did a little grave robbing while I was here!"

Player is rewarded 10k'.

Quest Prize: 10k'

Quest Costs: 1 squid platter.

I like it, and what it is that I like about this, is that it isn't your normal happy-go-lucky Christmas quest, nice little story too.

It's definitely funny. Though is there a way you could make it so you would have to kill players? It would up the fun a little...

^I agree, killing other players to obtain the blood would be more fun, but I'm not sure if that can be built into a quest.

You might have to kill less than twenty people though. Unless you could bribe a friend for kills, it might be a bit tricky considering there's about twenty people who play at one time.

So . . should I stick with the killing of warrior faction members or change it up somehow? I still don't know if killing real players to complete a quest objective is possible. D:

Well technically it could be done with a little bit of code.

Since there is a highscore system for PKs, the server already tracks the kills. It would be a simple matter of counting the kills from the time you started the quest to when you got 20.

I KNOW its possible. Tongue
