Work on the Creature Engine

Tomorrow I'm resuming work on the Creature Engine. Due to my quest to reduce lag and the building of the new website I had to put it on hold for a while.

But the time has come to resume my activities. My target is to bring the creature engine up to a point where it is possible for the admins to add intelligent boss monsters to quests. This will enrich the gameplay a lot.

My roadmap is as follows:

  • Add a system that updates the pathfinding graph every time a map is altered or changed.
  • Improve the world pathfinding graph so that it'll be possible to use the A star pathfinding in all occasions. This will prevent monsters from getting stuck.
  • Add experience rewards
  • Improve creature artificial intelligence.

im really laggy(it's just a general thing, we're far from the exchange AND in australia) so when the bosses chase me they hit me while i change screens. So I die... without even seeing the boss. And I can hardly every land a hit in. Is there anything I can do to fix this? (other than get faster net, not an option)

I'm not sure. It's impossible for the server to know which people lag more than others. Since everything is controlled server side. The server just moves the monster doll next to the character and hits it. I'll think about it some more. Maybe a check that if you changed screens in the last 2 seconds, it doesn't hit.. But that could be abused by screen hoppers.
