Because of this topic ( http://www.terragaming.net/phpbb2/viewtopic.php?t=43120 ) I messed around with Java and Pulpcore last night to build a basic browser based TerraWorld client.

It has very limited funtionality. It's just to show the technologie.
- Maps get rendered via TWO tiles and map data
- It takes a while to load a map. Graphics downloader is a very basic implementation.
- No connection with a server
- You can move a slime around
- No collision checking

Check it out and tell me the FPS you guys are getting. If it doesn't work please also post your browser version and java version if possible.

You should make something for mobile so I have something to entertain myself with at work.

Rightie-o

So I'm using Firefox 3.5.5 on Ubuntu 9.10 and I get the "Please enable Java" message. I have java installed and I downloaded and installed the Java Console add-on for Firefox and restarted the browser. But, my computer is acting kind of funny in general, so I'ma give her a reboot and try again. If anything changes, I'll edit this post.

Edit: Oh, Tom, I'm going through those video tutorials and learning quite a bit pretty fast. I was wondering though, would Java's Swing class do about the same thing as PulpCore? If not I'll hold off on learning the Swing stuff and focus on the topics that are best for the Terra port.

Alrighty, after a reboot it works. About 1300 fps standing, about 725 walking. I like how you incorporated the tiled movement in a smooth way. Also, diagonal movement is a plus, although collision detection with diagonals will be particularly interesting, depending on what will be considered a collision and not. Anyway, Nicely done so far. Hope to join you soon =D
