Due in part to demand and our want to keep you informed we are announcing one of our biggest projects that is being worked upon: A browser based replacement for our game client.

Other projects will be announced soon in seperate posts.

So lets get down to it.

In long talks with Tom we came to agreement that Terra needs a new direction, some way to help improve things and hopefully start us on the path to bringing the player base back up to higher levels.
In conjunction with the other projects we have in the works we hope that they will all fit together and give us what the game needs.

At first there was the thought that a team work on the source in lingo (the current language) but this was quickly dismissed due to collaboration problems among other.
We then decided to go for rebuilding the client entirely in Java.

Now for some details on the plans.

One biggest change is that the game will become browser based. This will allow us to appeal to a larger base of players and also updating with new features/bug fixes will become a lot easier rather than having to download a client each time, the game will autoupdate any patches that are released.
Another thing will be that no longer will there be just Tom working on the game. In Java it allows us to have a team that can work on it and create new features at a regular pace.

Tom will not personnaly be Working on the client. He will be overseeing the project and checking that things are going the right way.
The team working on it are as follows:

Dave - Ceebs
Luke - Scorchineon
Cyle - Joeseph

Doesnt seem like a massive team but its a good number and work has already started.

As I said before the Java client will allow us to create new features and implement them into the game at regular intervals. Already a list of new features are being drawn up and sitting there waiting for us to work on it.

In this post I will update every so often on our progress as well as what new features are confirmed as being built.
This is a prime time to go to the suggestion forum and post your ideas in the post that has been set up.

Our current focus is to build a working copy of the client and then build around it.

Also for your eyes only Wink here is a link to see the first draft mockup of how the browser client will look.
This is subject to change.

We will be happy to answer any questions you may have as well as we can.

Many thanks

THE TERRA TEAM

Soo, meaning that people who

Soo, meaning that people who have Mac's, so long as they had Java could also play Terra when/if this idea shoots off the ground then? Cause that would totally be like, the bomb.

Thats exactly what it means.

Thats exactly what it means. It also means we wont have to release entirely new clients for a lot of certain updates, AND that the game can be browser-based. All you need is Java, which you most likely already have.

It also means that people

It also means that people think that they can't get viruses from Java so they will be less hesitant to play it. It also means that we can get our site on more game sites for just browser games, (Just a suggestion) such as freebrowsergamer.com and maybe some other ones. I don't know any other ones actually.

Well, another question I have

Well, another question I have for this idea as well would have to be, with everything going to browser based, will there be a character wipe upon it's release, or will you guys be transfering character information into the browser project as well, if that's possible? Just figured i'd ask since i'm not entirely literate on this sort of thing. =P

No, terra works like

No, terra works like this.

There are two main parts of Terra, the Server and the Client. The server is a file (already written in java) where things like character information and stuff is held. This prevents people from editing character information and valuable information, and also saves space.

No character wipe will be required. Smile

Sounds like a lot of work.

Sounds like a lot of work. >.< It'd be great if this could actually happen though. As said before, this would allow for a slightly larger player base because those without Windows can play. =)

At the moment, the project is

At the moment, the project is on hold, since Cyle and I had to finish up school. I dont really have an estimate of when it will be finished, but it will probably be nearing completion sometime over the summer (Dont hold me to that)
