New Crossroads

We have mapped and configured a new crossroads for Terra. This new area is a good deal smaller than the old crossroads, along with some other changes.

Faction leaders have been moved to crossroads. This allows for easier access to the faction leaders, and also adds a bit of competition along with some future quest plans.

It also allows players that are arriving from Noob more choice for beginning the development of their character and journey.

To ease exploration there are signs around the square that direct you to where the factions are, but to give you a head start here is the layout.

The new crossroads is in the shape of a large X.

Mage faction is on the North West arm
Advent faction is on the South West arm
Warrior faction is on the South East arm
Private/guild housing is on the North East arm

If you encounter any errors, please post here, or contact an admin in game. We have tried to ensure there will be no issues, but some things still slip past sometimes.

Many thanks

What happened to all the

What happened to all the houses mapped in XR but outside and to the left and up? I had a guild hall and a house for this account made to look like a giant taco... This is a outrage! lol

If you go 2 up then 2 right

If you go 2 up then 2 right of the crossroads entrance/exit then you'll find a bridge. All of those houses are across that bridge.

I've had some time to look

I've had some time to look around the new XR and check things out, make some opinions about it:

I like the IDEA of it. XR has more of a use than just "meet here" - putting factions here I think is awesome, especially for new players.

Couple of things though:

1. Housing is pretty far away still, most people have agreed it's too long of a walk. I know, walking is part of the game, but it's VERY boring and if you want new players and players to stick around, LESS walking will help drastically.

2. (Don't mean any offence by this) It doesn't look nice. It's very boring, bland, and looks like the mapping is unfinished. The very first screen you enter on to makes me want to get the hell outta there.

I still say it's a good idea, just a couple of small tweaks will make it awesome.

This was actually something we planned on doing from the start, the path won't be shortened, but there is a shortcut one right of the entrance, just walk under that platform thing, theres a sign that tells you where to go.

The style was very intentional, did you already forget what old XR looked like? Tongue

We tried to keep it somewhat similar, in the sense that it was very simple, so I don't really see this one as an issue.

Yea I would have to agree

Yea I would have to agree with Trav on this one. I think that the idea is great, to have an area that consists of all of these things. The execution is poor however. The maps are very bland and there is no real direction. It really doesn't look well put together or that there was much thought put into it. (Just an observation). I'm also not really convinced that XR is one of the bigger problems on this game. There are so many areas that are juts changed now by putting up a big mountain and that place disappears (Secret City). No one knows what quests are still available, the order of quests that need to be done, or anything of the sort. Some people cannot even find their way off of noob anymore. There are constantly people in broadcast trying to figure out where to go next on a quest. I understand there are guides out there like Nina's that have helped tremendously. The truth is though, people should be able to continue with a quest without having to look for a guide. I know this is getting a bit long winded but I really do think that the questing system needs to be changed rather than trying to implement places if little to no importance (Lake Nocci). Any time I have gone to do something in the few months I've been back, I have to ask 20 questions just to get started. There are aboutu 15 quests in my quest long that cannot be completed and I truly have no clue which I can complete and where to even start if there were one that I could. I really do think that we need to take a step back on adding new places and all this, and instead rework and fix all of the old problems. I think that this would help not only to satisfy the old players, but also to keep the new players coming to this game.

We're aware of these, Scylo has been reviewing noob quests, and making needed changes in those for less confusion.

New XR was actually aimed at these players that get lost easy as well, ie; simplifying the faction locations, and making them readily available to players as soon as you get to main, versus having to ask a million questions about where the hell they are on how to get there.

To some people it might seem like we're doing stuff just for the sake of it, but I assure you, there is more thought going in to it than you seem to think.

Well I can respect that then.

Well I can respect that then. As long as I'm not the only one seeing these problems. I still think that housing in XR should be more like it was before where it is more of a focal point. I think there could be something besides the factions added to make it a huge central area besides housing (I can't think of anything right now but I'll keep thinking, maybe some sort of training area). Overall though great idea, I still don't like the mapping but I'm sure it will change some over time. As long as there will be progress on quests and improvements made that are necessary, then I will be behind that.

I'm glad points like these

I'm glad points like these are being made, we still want to work with the players to get things back on track.

We have quite a list building on the admin forums with the things that need looking at and working upon.

In regards to the quests we are working from the beginning and going from there.
Our main focus is to ensure that new players finally have a game to follow and play and at the same time ensure that we are still working on small bits for the current players to keep the playability factor alive.

Another factor that is in mind whilst on the topic of quests is making sure that we tidy up and sort the quests whilst not breaking it for the current players.
Although the quest system is good, there are a good number of missing features that can sometimes be a pain to get around.

Any other ideas and thoughts about what needs to be done are welcomed and we can compile a list to work from to the best that we can do with what we have.

Cool on point #1!

I still stand on my second point, it could use some improvements. Didn't forget what the old XR looked like, that's the point - this one looks worse.. just could use some spicing up.

It seems a lot of people are

It seems a lot of people are disliking crossroads, but aside from Trav and HC, no one seems to have any input on what it is they dislike, or what could be done to make it better. I'm a fan of simplicity. Yes, the maps are mostly just some trees and plants, but they are hardly as bland as everyone seems to insinuate. There are a lot of places on Terra that need more decoration or less complexity but in a lot of cases, how much does that really matter? Even if the area was mapped so perfectly that everyone loved it, if it isn't part of the 3 main towns that everyone stands around in, almost no one goes anywhere unless they have to.

The point I'm trying to make is, if you don't like crossroads, fine. Not everyone likes every area on Terra, but if you dislike it so much, give constructive opinions so someone can fix it instead of whining about how you don't like it but not bothering to tell anyone why.
